Lephalale man in court over illicit cigarettes
Northam – A 27-year old man appeared before the Lephalale Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 8 April, two days after he was arrested for trading in illicit cigarettes.
Lebona Abo was granted R2,000 bail and is set to make his second appearance in court on Thursday 11 June for trial.
Police spokesperson brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the long arm of the law caught up with Abo during a police operation in the Lephalale central business district. “Police received information about illicit cigarettes being sold in a shop a few blocks from the police station,” Mojapelo said. “We discovered illicit cigarettes worth an estimated R750,000,” he added.
Investigations continue.
