Regorogile – Mabogopedi Secondary School situated in Regorogile, just outside Thabazimbi, is on it’s way to become the public school it was destined to be.

This is due to the continuous support and engagement of various non-commissioned officers (NCO)’s and the Department of Education. The year kicked of well with the class of 2018 achieving a 76.47% pass rate.

In 2017, the school was on the verge of being deemed dysfunctional due to a matric pass rate varying between 31.64% and 51.18%. The pass percentages of Grade 8 to 11 added to concerns and the majority of learners were over-aged compared to the age cohort accepted as the norm.

During this year, the involvement of Northam Zondereinde in renovating the school was the coming to age of an initiative that started at the end of 2016 by the late Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) mayor, Midah Moselane, in conjunction with the circuit manager, Paul Molapisi and the district director, Julia Madela.

The involvement of the Thabazimbi business community in supporting the school was immense – also the continuous involvement of Godisang in supporting the Grade 12’s during winter and autumn classes.

The changes also reflected in the attitude and commitment of learners and staff at school and this year the lower Grades succeeded in achieving pass rates between 80.28% and 88.94%. The results of the Grade 12’s will be made public on 7 January 2020.

In January 2020, Godisang and SIOC Community Development Trust will finish the completion of the school hall, which was started in 2009 by Lucas Matlou, the then chief executive officer (CEO) of the Thabazimbi Community Development Trust. Mike Mabasa, the current CEO of Godisang, revitalised the project as a priority.

Johann van Rensburg who was seconded from Frikkie Meyer, where he was acting deputy principal, to Mabogopedi in October 2018, was officially appointed as the new principal of the school on Friday 6 December.

He is adamant that the success of the school is the result of all role-players: student governing body (SGB), staff, learners, community and the involvement of various organisations in developing management and leadership in the school.

At the end of this academic year the SGB, management and staff of Mabogopedi wish to thank every individual, company, business as well as the parents and community for their continued support and loyalty to the school.

May you be blessed during the festive season with love and grace. May 2020 be an exceptional year in which you achieve your goals and celebrate successes.
