Beware of a tyre fire

Thabazimbi – When a concerned citizen witnessed a truck transporting several massive tires on Friday 18 October to a local property, he immediately thought about the safety implications.

The next day he went to the property and discovered about 10,000 tonnes of tyres. 

Upon further investigation, he discovered that the tyres came from one of the mines in the area. The owner of the property said that he wanted to use the tyres for recycling but could not provide the required permits.

This vigilant community member went the extra mile to follow up with all parties involved to get an amicable solution.

His biggest concern was the danger that these tyres pose in case of a fire – especially the toxic gas that the tyres would emit.
