Deal signed  to end NSFAS strike 

SA – The recent strike by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) members at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) head offices came to an end on Friday, 1 November. 

As per agreement, NSFAS employees who participated in the strike, were to return to work from Monday, 4 November as per agreement by both parties.

An agreement was reached and signed by both parties, following a weeklong strike that started on Monday the previous week, due to unsuccessful negotiations between NSFAS and the union relating to performance management systems amongst others. The principle of ‘no work no pay’ will be applied as per modalities agreed upon between the two parties’ agreement between NSFAS and the union. 

The employer has agreed to set aside R2 million for the payment of employees that are within the bargaining unit and it is the view of both parties that such situation going forward should be avoided at all cost. The parties are going to work on building relations and as such there will be an immediate resumption of the National Bargaining Forum (NBF) to focus on outstanding matters.
