Thabazimbi lion cub found in Athlone 

Thabazimbi – Three suspects appeared before the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 27 November after Athlone police found a lion cub in their possession on 21 August.

According to police spokesperson sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, detectives followed up on information about a lion cub that was transported to the Western Cape. Various addresses were searched in the Athlone area (Cape Town) before the lion cub was found. 

Unfortunately, the cub had to be euthanized. The estimated street value of the lion cub is R50,000. A case of possession of endangered species was registered by SAPS’ stock theft unit.
