Thabazimbi Shelter - Here is what you need to know

Thabazimbi – The Loving Hands house, a shelter for those in need, will soon be open to the public. This shelter will be an ideal place for the homeless to take a shower, have a meal and sleep for the night – at an affordable cost.

As a way of providing a safe environment for everyone seeking refuge, a person will not be allowed to book in for more than one night at a time and all rules must be strictly adhered to. 

A cost of R50 per night will entitle guests to a meal, shower, a comfortable bed as well as a breakfast. Everybody will be tested for alcohol and drugs and will be searched twice, when they enter and when they depart. 

You can only check-in between 16:00 and 20:00 and the gates will then be locked to ensure the safety of all the guests. 

The following day, the gates will open at 6:00 when breakfast is served. Guests will then be expected to check-out by 8:00. 

Guests are welcome to return for a second or third night only if they can prove that they have been unsuccessful in finding employment. 

Checking in will be done on a first come first served basis.  

When checking-in, the person will receive a meal ticket for dinner as well as breakfast. They will also be issued with clean linen and towels, which must be returned before checking out. 
Anyone found to be under the influence of either alcohol or drugs will not be allowed into our facility. They will, however, be allowed to purchase dinner at a cost of R15. 

Companies and individuals can purchase meals and accommodation vouchers from the shelter and give it to people they wish to help on condition that the person must comply with the strict rules. 
The shelter will be open for seven days a week and right of admission will be reserved.
