An informative auction

Thabazimbi - Thabazimbi Wildlife Services together with CDP Auctioneers held a farmer’s day and sheep auction at the Trollope Hall in Thabazimbi on Saturday 15 February. 

It was an interesting information-sharing day where sponsors set up their stalls to showcase their products and services. Sponsors included WES Voere, Obaro, YahClick and FNB. 

Ben Foulds’ sheep were on auction and the community showed mass support for the event.
Well-known speakers shared their knowledge on small stock farming, focusing on the farming of goats and sheep. 

Josef Kleynhans gave a talk about selecting small stock and Hennie Du Toit spoke about the feeding and grazing practises for small stock domestic farming. Doctor Fafa Malan gave and informative speech on heartwater disease as well as other diseases that affect goats and sheep. Another interesting talk was given by veterinary doctor Dawid Snyman where he spoke about how to care for your goats and sheep in the bushveld and the important practises around it. 

Thabazimbi Wildlife Services owner Louis Trichardt spoke about the effects of foot and mouth disease. “Our industry was hit hard by the outbreak of foot and mouth disease. The ban that was placed on livestock auctions last year meant that we could not auction off more than one farmer’s stock at a time and not more than one breed,” he said.

Luckily the ban was lifted on 17 February.
In an interview with Platinum Bushvelder CDP Auctioneers owner, Corné du Plessis said: “We were very lucky to have veterinarians Dawid Snyman, Johan Human, Jana Pauwels and Ian van den Berg there to share their knowledge. It was an interactive platform where farmers had the opportunity to ask questions about the health of their livestock.”
