Cycling for a worthy cause  

Thabazimbi – Eugéne Pienaar and five other cyclists are embarking on a 2,500km journey from Beitbridge to Cape Town to raise money for President Kruger Children’s Home.  

Their initiative, known as 4TheKids Cycle Tour, started on Saturday 15 February and will end on Sunday 8 March.

 Proceeds from the initiative will be donated to the home, which has branches in Pretoria and Reddersburg. 

The good-hearted cyclist made a stop in Thabazimbi on 18 February before continuing with their journey.

“There are rest days in between the cycling days, and these will be used to visit the children at the children’s homes, deliver an encouraging message and playing games with them for a few hours,” Pienaar explained. 

“We would love for these children to feel special, needed and important. It’s about the children, their well-being and moulding them into the best people they can be. 

“The aim is to be able to do something special and personalised for the children that have been placed at this home,” he added. 

Children living at the two homes have been removed from their parents by the courts for various reasons. However, despite their circumstances the children are attending school, and everyone is optimistic of a bright future for them.  

The cyclists hope to raise money to buy bicycles, mattresses, stationery, sports balls, toiletries and backpacks for the children. 

The FNB Volunteers programme and Radio Pretoria are among the private companies that have thrown their weight behind this initiative.
