Elderly couple brutally attacked on farm, 79-year old murdered

Naboomspruit – Three suspects were rounded up and arrested on Friday 20 March after an elderly couple was attacked on their farm near Naboomspruit during the early hours of the morning.

The arrests came after a sting joint-operation comprised of Naboomspruit police, Roedtan, Modimolle police K9 unit, Community Police Forum (CPF), Heritage Protection Group (HPG) and local farmers with airwing support.

The suspects, aged from 26 to 34, face charges of house robbery, attempted murder, murder, possession of suspected stolen property and the possession of firearm and ammunition without a license.

According to police spokesperson colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspects entered the farmhouse, assaulted and killed the elderly man (79) and severely injured the 66-year old woman. They took off with cell phones and other valuables.

The coordinated manhunt yielded success. A firearm with a loaded magazine, two live rounds of ammunition, tools, two sports bags, one school bag full of clothes and canned food were among items recovered during the arrest.

The suspects, Tatenda Lebogang Mongwenya, Lyod Madumba and Yaganias Saga, appeared before the Naboomspruit District Court on Monday 23 March. Investigations continue.
