Soldier arrested for illicit cigarettes, released on warning  

Polokwane – A non-commissioned South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldier, who was arrested on Sunday 31 May for possession of illicit cigarettes, has been released on a warning.

The suspect was arrested by the military police (MP) in Seshego after a consignment of cigarettes was found in the military vehicle he was driving.

SANDF spokesperson colonel Ronald Maseko told Platinum Bushvelver that ongoing investigations into the case would determine the fate of the suspect. “The member was arrested and taken to a local police station for processing. He was released on a warning, but this does not mean that he is free,” Maseko said. “We are still doing an investigation and he could be charged again, depending on the outcome of the investigations.”
