FARM ATTACKERS ARRESTED

Polokwane – Police in Limpopo have arrested three suspects in connection with house robbery and rape incidents which occurred on a farm in the Dendron area.

It is alleged that on Wednesday 5 August, the three suspects brutally assaulted a 62-year old farmer and his 58-year old wife. They proceeded to rob the couple of their riffles, a Nissan Navara bakkie and a plasma television. It is also alleged that they raped the woman before they fled the scene.

Acting on information received about the whereabouts of the suspects, police spotted the white vehicle on Matlala and a car chase ensued.  

“Police cornered two of the suspects on the N1 road south of Polokwane and apprehended them. The third suspect, who fled on foot, was later shot and injured after he attempted to shoot at the police,” police spokesperson brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo explained. “He was taken to hospital and admitted under police guard.”

During the arrest, the police recovered two riffles, a television set, a two-way radio and the white Nissan bakkie. The suspects were also found in possession of five pistols.
The suspects are all set to appear before the Mogwadi Periodical Court on charges of house robbery and rape.

They will also appear before the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of stolen property.
Provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo lieutenant general Nneke Ledwaba commended Highway Patrol members for the arrests.
