Bundu Hotel engulfed in flames

Northam – A runaway fire caused havoc at Bundu Hotel in Northam on Thursday 20 August. According to an eyewitness, the fire started when someone tried to burn rubbish inside a bin near the hotel. A pile of wooden pallets standing close to the bin caught fire and spread to a dried-out tree which fell on top of the roof of the hotel.

Braam Venter, a community member who assisted at the scene, said that the fire destroyed about a third of the hotel’s rooms before the Amandelbult and Swartklip firefighters managed to contain it.
