4 ESCAPE FROM POLICE CUSTODY… 1 REARRESTED

Hartbeesfontein – One of the four men who escaped from police custody in Hartbeesfontein on Saturday 26 September has been rearrested.   

Tebogo Moloko’s ‘freedom’ lasted for four days only. He was rearrested in Coligny on Wednesday 9 September. The suspect, who was due to stand trial for business robbery, will now also stand trial for escaping from police detention when he appears before the Hartbeesfontein Magistrates’ Court.     

Police are calling on anyone with information about the whereabouts of the remaining trio – Tebogo Monnamogolo, Piet Sechele and Ranthati Mothobi – to come forward. All three suspects have pending cases and were due to appear in court for charges related to burglary, murder, and rape before they escaped. The circumstances surrounding their escape are not yet clear.  

“The escape was discovered during a routine cell inspection at the police station. The police are currently busy with an internal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the escape,” police spokesperson captain Aafje Botma said. “Members of the community are urged not to try and apprehend or confront any of the escapees as they are dangerous.”
