10-YEAR SENTENCE FOR FRAUDSTER ATTORNEY 

Brits – Isak Snyman a 46-year-old attorney was sentenced on Tuesday 8 December by the specialised commercial crimes court in Pretoria for theft of trust funds. 

According to Hawks spokesperson captain Tlangelani Rikhotso, since 2010 the accused was employed in Brits to purchase and register properties on behalf of clients. The accused misappropriated about R4-million and deposited the money into his trust account to purchase properties. His clients reported him to the Hawks’ serious commercial crime unit who investigated the allegations and had him summoned to court. 

Snyman pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10-years, suspended for five years on condition that he repay the funds back in R50,000 monthly instalments.
