Elephant tusk dealers in the dock  

Limpopo – Three men found in possession of elephant tusks are expected to apply for bail on Tuesday 2 February when they appear before the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court.  

David Mathonsi (31), Raymond Move (33), and Ben Shiburi (36) were all arrested at Savannah Mall on Friday 21 January after they were found in possession of four elephant tusks worth an estimated R168,000. 

“The suspects, who were travelling in a grey BMW, were arrested by police members of the endangered species, K9 and crime intelligence units during a joint undercover operation,” police spokesperson colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said. A trap was set for the suspects, who were immediately arrested after attempting to sell the tusks to undercover police officers.
