REPRESENTING NORTHAM

Thabazimbi – Democratic Alliance (DA) Northam public relations (PR) councillor David Gouveia, was sworn in at the council chamber by Thabazimbi magistrate, JC Maribana on Thursday 11 February. He will represent the Northam community at Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) and vice versa. In an interview with Platinum Bushvelder, Gouveia spoke about his journey leading up to becoming a councillor at TLM. “It was a long, gruelling road. It all started when I moved to Northam on 26 June 2016. I soon became part of the ‘Northam Problem’ group on WhatsApp. With a child on the way, I knew I had to make a difference, not only for my child’s future, but for the whole community’s future.

I was fully aware that I would not be able to do this on my own! I felt that Northam had no ‘voice’ and from thereon I fully committed myself to this cause.” Gouveia established the Northam Rate Payers Association on 18 September 2018 and was shortly joined by likeminded people who wanted to make Northam a better place. “I would like to invite the community to take hands with me, to make real improvements in Northam. We must remember that Northam did not look like this overnight, and restoration also will not be overnight – but we can do it.”
