Killed trying to protect a friend

Brits – The senseless murder of Dieter Grabie (22) of Brits who was stabbed to death when he pulled his friend Chris Malan (19) out of the way of five knife-wielding attackers, is hard to digest.   

The incident occured shortly after 02:00 AM in Van Deventer Street, Brits.
Dieter and his friend caught a lift from a local hangout for youngsters... the lift only took them part of the way and dropped them off... upon which Malan reportedly phoned his mom to come and fetch them. They soon realised they were in trouble when a gang of five appeared and started attacking them. 
Grabie collapsed soon after being stabbed. Malan summoned an ambulance from a nearby filling station. Sadly Grabie died shortly after being admitted to hospital. 

“He was stabbed in the upper body. The suspects fled the scene and the friend then sought assistance from a local garage,” police spokesperson Maria Nkabinde said.
