Limpopo Easter road fatalities 

Limpopo – It seems as if ban on alcohol sales had no effect on road safety over the Easter weekend. Many road accidents recorded in the Limpopo Province over the Easter period resulted in several fatalities that have left government authorities scrambling for answers to prevent the needless loss of lives experienced each year during major holidays.
In one of the accidents, four people were killed on Saturday 3 April in a head-on collision along the D856 road at Sekhukhune. Another person was seriously injured in the collision, which involved a Polo VW and a Mahindra.   
“Drivers of both vehicles and two passengers were certified dead on the scene. One passenger sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital,” spokesperson for the provincial Department of Transport and Community Safety Mike Maringa said. “Reckless driving is cited as a possible cause of the accident,” he added. 
In another accident, one person died in a head-on collision which occurred along the R81 outside Giyani. “It is alleged that the driver of a Hyundai sedan was overtaking on a barrier line and collided with an oncoming Toyota sedan,” Maringa added. The driver of the Hyundai was killed instantly while the passenger he was travelling with escaped with minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota sedan as well as a passenger also sustained serious injuries and had to be taken to Khensani Hospital for treatment. Yet another accident on Saturday 3 April resulted in the temporary closure of the R101 road between Maubane and Pienaars Dekman Farm. 
Motorists were advised by traffic police officers to use the N1 from Pienaars as an alternative route after a head on collision involving two vehicles stopped the flow of traffic. “For this accident, three people have so far been confirmed dead,” Maringa said.
