Mayor house robbery: Second suspect in court   

Lephalale – A woman who is allegedly part of a five-member gang involved in robbing Lephalele mayor Jack Maseko’s home, has been arrested. Portia Kgama, a Mozambican national, appeared before the Phalala Magistrates’ Court on Friday 9 April after she was arrested in Gauteng.
 
The arrest of the 34-year-old woman brings the number of suspects arrested in connection with the incident, to two. Joao Antonio Lucas, who was the first to be arrested, has already made his first court appearance. 

Police spokesperson colonel Moatshe Ngoepe explained the circumstances leading to the robbery of mayor Maseko’s house on Sunday 14 February. “It is alleged that four unknown armed men, accompanied by two women, arrived in three vehicles. They stopped at the gate of the mayor’s house and asked the security guard to see the mayor.
Before the guard could respond, they assaulted and overpowered him, entered the house, and tied everybody up before they ransacked the house.”
The suspects stole a Toyota Legend 45 and fled the scene. The car was later found abandoned along Lebu road in the Tomburke policing area outside Lephalale. The security guard sustained serious injuries. A manhunt for the remaining five accomplices is still underway.
