Thabazimbi – Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) has described the illegal practice of pasting posters on steetlight poles, stop signs, dustbins and municipal electrical distribution boxes as a drawback to ongoing clean-up initiatives of the local government authority.
 
In many parts of town posters advertising abortions, penis enlargements, and free satellite television have become an eyesore. Those pasting these posters are flouting municipal by-laws, which states that an advertiser must approach the local government authority and follow the proper procedure, which includes paying for the advert. If approved, the advert will be placed at a designated spot.
 
TLM communications manager Joshua Motsomane expressed his concern at how those placing these posters are using the cover of darkness to flout the law. He said such practices are also rife in Northam. “As a municipality, we are very concerned about these illegal notices.” He advised those wishing to advertise to visit the Local Economic Development (LED) unit or the Department of Planning and Economic Development for applications.
