Real men treat women and children with respect!

Regorogile/ Thabazimbi – The Departments of Transport and Community Safety, Social Development, the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) and its stakeholders launched their 16 Days of Activism initiative on no violence against women, children and persons with disabilities on 23 November.

The aim was to raise awareness of the negative impact that violence and abuse have on women and children.

“It is our duty to create a society that is free of violence against women, children and persons with disabilities,” says mayor Midah Moselane. “We hear and read about cases of violence and abuse each and every day, but we continue pretending that it is not real, simply because it has not affected us personally. You do not have to be in a violent relationship to know that there are women and children who are being abused every day. We have to stand up for one another’s rights.”

Says cllr Rosina Boloka on behalf of the MEC for Transport and Community Safety: “Acting against gender based violence is a societal responsibility. We all gave to contribute to ensure that this campaign is a reality in our communities.”

The event was well attended by community members, sector departments and stakeholders, persons with disabilities, community leaders, councillors, children of nearby areas and the Police.
