7 DAYS TO RESPOND

Thabazimbi – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Thabazimbi and disgruntled community members gathered in protest at the Thabazimbi Police Station on Wednesday 19 May.

Dumbfounded about the allegations against sergeant Rebecca Malethokwa Mfisa, who was implicated in an attempted murder in 2010 in Schweizer-Reneke, protesters wanted to make their voice heard. Rebecca Maletlhokwa Mfisa, (then 34) was arrested on Friday 21 May after she and three men allegedly shot at a farmer on his farm outside of Schweizer-Reneke, Lieutenant-General Lesetja Ephraim Beetha said.

A 36-year-old farmer arrived back at his farmhouse on Friday evening when he was shot at as he got out of his car. The farmer reacted immediately and returned fire upon which the suspects fled the scene.The farmer immediately went into his house and sounded the alert.
 
Neighbouring farmers started looking for the suspects and stopped Mfisa who was driving a bakkie on the Hartsfontein gravel road. Police arrived soon after and discovered her police identification, a gun, police-issue torch, and two-way hand radios in the vehicle. Later that week Modisaotsile Advocate Koki, 37, was also arrested for the crime. Thembile Johannes Rens, 35, who is an ex-policeman and (then) believed to be in a relationship with Mfisa, was handed to police by his lawyer. The fourth suspect is still at large. 

Now, 11 years later, Mfisa, who allegedly attempted to murder another person is stationed at SAPS Thabazimbi.The protestors are disgruntled that Mfisa, under these circumstances are not only still employed by SAPS, but was also promoted by them in the meantime.

A memorandum was handed over to captain Poromi Kgatla noting the EFF and the community’s grievances, demanding that sergeant Mfisa and the station commander colonel Bodibe be suspended with immediate effect. SAPS were given seven days to respond.
