Clamping down on car theft

Northam – Crime fighting initiatives by traffic law enforcement agencies in Northam and Modimolle are yielding positive results.
 
On Friday 14 May, a traffic operation by the Crime Intelligence Section (CIS), Northan reservists as well as the Modimolle Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) resulted in the seizure of several vehicles. A Toyota Yaris was confiscated during the blitz after it was discovered the vehicle’s registration plates had been altered. Traffic officers also came across a Hyundai H100 LDV bakkie that was stolen in Mabopane.

Both vehicles were handed over to Northam SAPS. The driver of a Scania found himself in trouble after it was discovered his vehicle was de-registered and that it had a false license disk and registration plates. Additionally, 10 sets of registration plates were removed from various vehicles. This was after police realised that they had either been wrongly issued or had been registered with different details.
