Lengthy jail term for copper-stealing duo

Northam – Two Mozambican nationals will spend a long time behind bars after the Thabazimbi Regional Court sentenced them for trespassing on private property, stealing copper worth an estimated R600,000 as well as being in the country illegally. 

On Wednesday 12 May, the court sentenced Justice Sithole and Anthony Sabino Napanga to five years imprisonment for trespassing, fifteen years for theft, and six months for being in the country illegally. This was after the state successfully proved in court how the two illegally gained entrance at a mining company before stealing the copper. “Sithole and Napanga will spend at least 15 years behind bars, as both the first and third count will run concurrently,” police spokesperson brigadier Motlalefa Mojapelo said.
