Water meter theft on the increase     

Northam – Seven water meters were stolen in the same street (Kelly Street, extension 6) within two weeks.

Apart from costing the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) a pretty penny, precious potable water is going down the drain.

TLM communications manager Joshua Motsomane urges community members to report these criminals.

“We ask our residents and scrap metal dealers to be our eyes and ears so that we are able to bring to book what we suspect to be a criminal syndicate operating in the area,” he said. 

He added that more than 30 water meters had been stolen recently in various parts of Northam. “We will have to replace all of them with plastic ones,” he added.
