Giving addicts hope

Thabazimbi – Substance abuse is crippling our families and communities. It is far-reaching and increasing in intensity in South Africa.

Many people experiment with mind- and mood-altering substances in an attempt to relieve their stress, without understanding how addictive these substances can be. 

Lighthouse inc Friends to Addicts is a non-profit organisation (NGO) that aims to make a difference by assisting addicts with love and advice to lead them on the road to recovery. They also hope to be able to provide financial assistance to addicts who cannot afford to pay for rehab themselves.

While the organisation was founded by Ernest Pienaar, Annamarie Oosthuizen took over in 2018 when Ernest moved away. It was officially registered as an NGO in 2021. 

Annamarie started helping addicts after losing her son in a motor vehicle accident. Her passion is helping young people. 

The rest of the team consists of Anthony Marcus, Sheryl Swanepoel and Roan Rynecke – who all consider it their calling to assist those suffering from addiction. They also help parents with advice and rehabilitation when needed.

Recovering addicts are welcome to join them for support group meetings at the old Standard Bank building.
