Rape suspect’s bail refused

Thabazimbi – A man accused of attacking and raping two women on Thursday 14 October will remain in police custody until he makes a third appearance before the court on 4 November.

The suspect was denied bail when he appeared before the Thabazimbi Magistrates’ Court on 21 October and police are conducting further investigations into the matter. 

Police spokesperson constable Titus Khumalo told Platinum Bushvelder that the two women were attacked while returning home from a stokvel they attended at Matikiring informal settlement. 

“A 58-year-old woman and a 39-year-old woman, who is eight and a half months pregnant, were attacked and raped,” Khumalo said.“The victims have received medical and psychological help. The case has been referred to a higher court,” he added.
