Living next to a ‘freshwater dam’

Northam – Ben Koloi stays next to a reservoir in Block 7 Northam. Ever since 2010, they have been struggling with the reservoir constantly overflowing – and water running into their gardens and homes. 

From the right angle, it looks like Koloi lives on prime property next to a dam. In reality, it’s fresh drinking water wasted.

Years of water leakages has caused damage to his home; his children can’t play in his garden because it is always a muddy mess.

“We are in desperate need of help; all my pleas have fallen on deaf ears. I constantly have to phone and all they are doing is wasting my airtime because they don’t fix the problem,” Ben said in an interview with Platinum Bushvelder.

Councillor David Gouveia confirmed that he has personally reported the matter to the Thabazimbi Local Municipality. “It is unacceptable that an essential resource is being wasted like this.”
