Alleged child rapist remains behind bars

Thabazimbi – Thirty-year-old Pakistani national, Usman Ahmed, who was arrested on Friday 12 November for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl at his shop in the CBD, appeared before the Thabazimbi Magistrates’ Court on Monday 22 November.

The Thabazimbi Taxpayers Association arranged a protest outside the court to show their outrage and they demanded that the accused should not be released on bail.

“It could have been your child who came home from school who decided to pop in at the shop to buy a cold drink,” one of the protesters said.

The bail application was postponed to 2 December and police spokesperson Titus Khumalo confirmed that during the investigation, it came to light that the accused was an illegal immigrant and that additional charges against the accused was added.
