Thaba traffic nightmare [Letter to the editor]

Thabazimbi – First and foremost, thank you to Platinum Bushvelder for the abundantly positive work you put in and spread around areas of Limpopo and the North West. 

However, there are a few matters that need to be heard and addressed, matters that are causing upheaval in our town. One of these matters is the congestion that is caused in and around town during school drop-off and pick-up times.  

At Laerskool Thabazimbi and Hoërskool Frikkie Meyer, the traffic in the mornings and afternoons is problematic. Traffic starts from 06:30 up until 07:20. This happens again from 11:30 up until 14:00 at the schools. 

The traffic from Laerskool Thabazimbi affects multiple streets namely, Deena street, Naomi street, Michael street and Van der Bijl street. Hoërskool Frikkie Meyer traffic affects 10th avenue, 13th Avenue, and Tambotie street.

The primary school makes parking available inside their premises for the parents to collect their children to ease the traffic, but a majority of the parents only make use of the drop-off space. This causes time delays, accidents waiting to happen, and rude and impatient drivers. 

At the high school there is only a pick-up and drop-off zone and little parking available. The buses also need to make use of this facility to collect the students. This too causes time delays, accidents waiting to happen, and rude and impatient drivers.
