Truck veered off the road

The driver of a truck travelling on the R511, lost control of his truck when a front wheel tyre burst. The truck veered off the road, down the embankment, hitting a tree before capsizing.  

The accident occurred on Tuesday 9 August at around 12:30 midday, between the Northam turnoff and the Pienaarsrivier bridge, about 80km from Thabazimbi. The truck was on its way to Johannesburg when the accident occurred.

The driver sustained moderate injuries, with a cut to his leg and a head injury, but the passenger was seriously injured. The passenger sustained internal injuries, an open wound to his back and feet and a gaping wound to his chest.

Thabazimbi Fire and Rescue (TFR) also responded to the scene. They said that Trauma Rescue quickly responded to the accident scene, where they stabilised the passenger before taking him to the Thabazimbi Hospital.
