Avoid unnecessary fires!  

Thabazimbi – A combination of gusty, August winds and dry grass always poses a serious threat of dangerous and rapidly spreading fires.

Strong winds, a characteristic feature of the month of August, can cause destruction when they pick up embers which go on to cause fires elsewhere.  

Being cautious and vigilant, as well as adhering to simple fire-control rules, are a necessary requirement for all communities and can save lives. 

The advice from director of Thaba Fire and Rescue, Pierre Loots, to people living in and around Thabazimbi is simple:

“Do not start an unnecessary fire. If you do start a campfire, for example, make sure it is completely extinguished when you are done. If the ashes of the fire are blown away, it could result in a dangerous fire.” 

Loots calls upon community members to report any fires as soon as they spot them – even the very small ones.
