Taxi violence in industrial area    

Thabazimbi – Scores of taxi drivers assaulted employees at Ghata Instrumentation on Tuesday 23 August after accusing one of them of picking up hitchhikers.

The incident occurred at the company’s premises at the corner of Lood and Platina Streets. 
Ephraim Mosimanegape, a supervisor at the company, told Platinum Bushvelder that they had to press the panic button at around 8:13 after the situation got out of hand.  

“About eight taxis drove into the property and 20 taxis parked outside. A man who approached us accused one of our employees of picking up hitchhikers with a white Toyota bakkie,” Mosimanegape said.

“One of our employees was grabbed by his neck and some of the others were also attacked,” he added. 

The police as well as the local community policing forum (CPF) arrived at the scene and restored order at around 8:47.
