Sundowns’ superior attacking prowess

SA – Mamelodi Sundowns have fired early warning shots about their ability to successfully defend their DStv Premier Soccer League (PSL) title.

With just over a quarter of the matches having been played, the club is currently at the top of the log with two points. 

And if you remember how the chase ended last season, then you will probably be aware how it might prove difficult – once again – for the other clubs to keep up!

After eight matches, Sundowns are now on 16 points while second placed Orlando Pirates have managed 14 points in as many matches. A 2-1 win over Golden Arrows at Tuks Stadium on Saturday 10 September ensured Sundowns remain at the summit of the log. 

Goals from Peter Shalulile and Siyavuya Ndlovu were enough for the defending champions to collect maximum points while Arrows got their goal through Pule Mmodi. Pirates, on the other hand, managed a 2-0 win over TS Galaxy at Orlando Stadium through goals from Spiwe Msimango and Zakhele Lepasa. 

Sundowns have now scored 14 goals in all matches (as compared to Pirates’ six) and this demonstrates just how lethal their strikers have been. Let’s see how they will fare in their next match against AmaZulu at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday 18 September.
