Enough is enough!

Northam – The South African Police Services (SAPS) in Northam took a proactive stance in their fight to end gender-based violence (GBV) and child abuse in their campaign launched on Friday 25 November 2022 at the Northam central business district.

The campaign against GBV saw an assortment of support from an array of heavyweights and public safety stakeholders such as captain Khensani Maluleke from the Thabazimbi SAPS family protection, child protection and sexual offences (FCS) unit, social workers from the Department of Social Development, ward councillor Alex Lerumo, representatives from Northam Platinum Mine and Anglo American Platinum, as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the Northam Community Policing Forum (CPF). 

Speakers highlighted issues associated with GBV and child abuse, and urged victims to speak out and seek support from their communities as well as the police. They also advised the community to be extra vigilant during the upcoming festive season where an increase in alcohol consumption could lead to an increase in violence.  

“It is important to fight the battle against GBV and child abuse, and to involve community members because we must overcome this scourge collectively,” said Northam SAPS spokesperson sergeant Fortune Madisa.
