Pirates take the final win!

SA – Orlando Pirates have proved that they are still a force to be reckoned when it comes to South African soccer. 

Their 2-1 win over Sekhukhune United on Saturday 27 May 2023 in the finals of the Nedbank Cup serves as proof—if any was needed—that the Pirates team is still one of the strongest on the domestic front. Pirates managed to win the match—even after having conceded a goal during the early stages. 

Their win not only shows their talent, but also points to a collective ‘never say die’ attitude within the team. Sekhukhune had a good start when they took the lead in the 12th minute through Sibusiso Vilakazi’s goal.

However, just before halftime, Pirates scored through a Tapelo Xoki penalty that saw them going back to level terms. The popular Soweto-based club then scored the winning goal through Terrence Dzvukamanja, who did well to guide an intelligent pass from Monnapule Saleng into the back of the net. 

The win is significant for Pirates as they will now be able to participate in the African continental cup competitions!
