A week of wonders

SA/ Thabazimbi - The magnificence of the South African landscape, with its sprawling savannas, lush forests, and iconic wildlife, is a source of national pride. Every year, the charm of our national parks captures the hearts of millions. But this September, the allure is not just in the breathtaking scenery, but in the generous open arms of South African National Parks (SANParks).

For its eighteenth year, SANParks opened its parks for the SA National Parks Week which took place from Saturday 16 to Sunday 24 September 2023. Offering free access, it was a golden ticket to explore the wonders that lie within our borders, a journey of discovery echoing the theme ‘Know Your National Parks.’

One such gem, the Marakele National Park, is not just a spectacle of nature but a narrative of our rich cultural and historical heritage. 

“SA National Parks Week was a great opportunity for the community to experience the beauty of Marakele which is at their doorsteps. Not only did Marakele visitors enjoy free access, they also had a chance try our game drives which were offered at 50% discount amongst other activities,” said Marakele National Park park manager Koketso Kotsoe.  

Although SA National Parks Week has come to an end, the treasure trove of nature’s splendour remains open to explore, to cherish, and to protect. Let’s continue to walk the trails, breathe the fresh air, and with every step, weave ourselves into the intricate tapestry of our natural, cultural, and historical narrative.
