Littering and illegal dumping of waste
Northam/ Thabazimbi - All residents and businesses are reminded of their responsibility in terms of Section 8(1) (a) and (b) of the Thabazimbi Refuse Removal By-Law No 2126 of 2012, which prohibits the improper handling of waste. All waste must be handled and disposed of in a manner that is not harmful to the environment and that does not pose a health risk. Illegal and improper disposal of waste not only constitutes a violation of other residents’ rights to a clean and healthy environment but also poses a danger to animals; contributes to air quality issues and is a serious cause of stormwater drainage malfunction as a result of blockages. All residents and businesses residing and operating within the municipal jurisdiction are therefore requested to refrain from the following:
- Illegal disposal of waste (i.e., in open spaces/areas, side of the road, and through car windows)
- Burning of waste
- General littering
- Illegal disposal of waste outside of the landfill parameters.
