As I look back at the past year, four words really stick out when I think about what we’ve all been through – No water! No electricity. We’ve all felt it here in Thabazimbi and surrounds. These problems keep popping up, affecting everyone’s life. But, despite these tough times, our community’s held strong and, in some ways, some of us even thrived. We’ve turned these tough times into a story of how resilient and united we are. Thabazimbi and its surrounds, right in the heart of the bushveld, are filled with amazingly resilient and kind people. People like Nickey Cronje. With a sense of profound loss and respect, I want to pay tribute to Nickey, a deeply valued member of our community who recently passed away. She will be remembered as a positive force in our community. We are going to miss her. People like Nickey are the ones who always step up, whether it’s sharing a cup of milk during power cuts or offering a shower to those without water. In journalism, we get to share the ups and downs of our community, from big celebrations to the tough times of loss. If you’re mourning loved ones, friends, or colleagues, I’m truly sorry for your loss.
The strength shown by the people in Thabazimbi, Northam, Regorogile, and their surrounds has been incredible. Especially with all the fires this year, the way everyone’s come together to fight the fires, any time of day, often at your own expense, has been amazing. A big thank you to all of you. Like lots of businesses, we’ve felt the impact of Covid and the economic downturn.
