A friendly reminder for sun safety in Thabazimbi [letter to the editor] 

Thabazimbi – I am writing to share a concern that affects all of us in our sunny Thabazimbi community, especially our active kids. Last weekend, I spent a wonderful time at our local primary school’s rugby field with my 9-year-old daughter. We enjoyed running and stretching together, embracing her love for athletics and netball. It’s always a joy to spend quality time exercising with her. However, something caught my attention that I feel is important to address. While we were there, I noticed several children, not much older than my daughter, playing with a rugby ball. What worried me was that many of these young players did not seem to have any sunscreen protection against the harsh sun. We all know the Thabazimbi sun doesn’t spare anyone, shining intensely most days. While I understand it’s not always possible to supervise our children every minute, I kindly urge all parents and guardians to remember the importance of sunscreen. It’s a simple step that can protect our kids from the sun’s harmful rays and prevent future skin issues. Let’s keep our community safe and healthy by making sunscreen a non-negotiable part of our children’s outdoor routines, just like wearing shoes or bringing a water bottle. Together, we can ensure that every child enjoys the sun safely.
