Tragedy in Rooiberg:  Police Sergeant’s Life Cut Short

Rooiberg/ Koedoeskop – A devastating act of violence has shaken the Limpopo police force. Lieutenant general Thembi Hadebe, provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, has expressed her shock and condemnation following the tragic killing of a 47-year-old police sergeant stationed at Rooiberg Police Station in the Waterberg District.

The sergeant, a dedicated officer and grandmother, was discovered lifeless in her home on the morning of Sunday, 26 January 2025, by her 6-year-old grandson. Her vehicle and boyfriend were missing, sparking an immediate investigation. Later that day, her vehicle was found abandoned 50 kilometres away on the Thabazimbi Road near Koedoeskop.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that the sergeant had returned home with her boyfriend the previous evening. While the motive for the crime remains unclear, domestic violence is a suspected factor.

Lieutenant General Hadebe has called for the full mobilisation of police resources to apprehend the suspect and bring justice to the grieving family. She extended her deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late sergeant.
