Thabazimbi’s Roads: A Rocky Ride to Recovery

Thabazimbi – The recent floods wreaked havoc across Thabazimbi, leaving roads battered and residents frustrated. While the community rallied together to assist those in need, the damage to infrastructure — particularly the roads — remains a pressing issue.

The Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) has already begun repair efforts, but much work lies ahead. On Tuesday, 21 January 2025, TLM launched an urgent pothole patching operation following two weeks of relentless rain and flooding. The initiative is being bolstered by JC Havenga of Coastal Hire, who provided essential machinery, along with the dedicated efforts of Public Works Thabazimbi.

TLM expressed its sincere gratitude to JC Havenga for his generous contribution, which is helping to restore the roads and improve safety for motorists. However, drivers are urged to remain cautious, as repairs and maintenance will continue over the coming days. Work crews and detours may cause temporary disruptions, but these efforts are essential to ensuring safer travel for all.

In the meantime, residents have taken it upon themselves to warn fellow motorists of dangerous potholes. Some have resorted to creative makeshift warnings — like the one in 8ste Laan, where a tree adorned with red ribbon serves as a stark caution: “If your car passes through here, it might be the last place it goes through!” 

Elsewhere, in Berg Street, a single traffic cone stands as a lone sentry over a deep pothole, urging drivers to steer clear. 

Despite the challenges, progress is being made. 

While the road to recovery may be bumpy, the combined efforts of the municipality, businesses, and residents show that Thabazimbi’s spirit remains unshaken. Drive safely, stay vigilant, and let’s navigate this road to recovery together.
