STOLEN FIREARM SEIZED

Northam – A high-impact crime-fighting operation led by the Vala Umgodi Waterberg District Task Team has yielded significant arrests and the recovery of a stolen firearm, reinforcing efforts to curb criminal activities in Northam and beyond.

The operation, conducted on Sunday, 2 February 2025, was a collaborative effort between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and specialised units such as the Tactical Response Team (TRT), Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), Drone Pilots, and K9-Unit. Their mission: to increase police visibility, disrupt criminal activities, and dismantle illegal operations in known crime hotspots.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that officers arrested a 34-year-old undocumented foreign national in Lefika township for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The firearm, which had been reported stolen two weeks prior in Northam, was recovered alongside five rounds of live ammunition during a meticulous search supported by the K9-Unit.
