Bribery on the R510: officer busted — but tipped off?

Thabazimbi/ Rustenburg – A local driver recently faced a shocking encounter on the R510 near Sandfontein, as previously reported on in Platinum Bushvelder newspaper. Pulled over by a traffic officer while en route to Thabazimbi from Rustenburg, the driver was accused of overloading and told to pay a R1,500 bribe to get his license back.

The company reported the incident to police on Friday, 18 February 2025. Shortly after, the same officer returned, threw the license back at the driver, and said, “I hear you want to get me arrested.”

The incident raises serious concerns — was the corrupt officer warned by someone after the report was made?

In response, brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the police are committed to professional service, and all complaints must be reported for investigation.
