Underground Sabotage Uncovered!

Northam/ Thabazimbi – Seven suspects – including six mine workers from Northam and one individual from Thabazimbi – were convicted and sentenced on charges related to copper cable theft, a crime that directly threatens our region’s economic infrastructure.

These convictions follow a string of separate incidents dating back to 2023, with all suspects found guilty of either theft or possession of suspected stolen copper cable. The final sentencing was delivered on 3 April 2025, thanks to the persistent efforts of the Economic Infrastructure Task Team and detective warrant officer Samuel Temane from Northam SAPS.
