Leon’s trial delayed again

Thabazimbi – Justice continues to inch forward for Leon van der Walt, who was brutally assaulted in September last year. On Tuesday, 7 May 2025, the case against the accused, Andrew Wynand Hoffman, was again postponed — this time to 26 June 2025 — for disclosure.

Disclosure is the legal process where the State must provide the defence with all evidence in the case, including witness statements, reports, and any documents it intends to use during the trial.

The Van der Walt family — Leon and his wife Monique — have shown extraordinary resilience throughout the drawn-out proceedings. The couple remains steadfast in their pursuit of justice, despite a series of frustrating delays.

This postponement follows a previous setback in April when Hoffman’s attorney withdrew from the case. At that time, the court gave a final warning against further stalling. Now, with the disclosure process underway, the long-awaited trial appears to be slowly approaching.

The community continues to stand behind Leon and Monique, inspired by their strength and patience as they wait for justice to be served.
