Northam Tackles Taxi Chaos with Road Safety Blitz

Northam – In a move to improve road safety and reduce traffic congestion, the Thabazimbi Local Municipality joined forces with law enforcement officers on Friday 9 May 2025 to clear illegal taxi ranks along the busy R510 and D1235 routes in Northam.

The operation included the installation of new “NO STOPPING” signs and speed limit signage to curb illegal parking — particularly by taxis — and to streamline traffic flow through the town’s busiest corridors.

This intervention forms part of the municipality’s broader road safety campaign. Officials also engaged with motorists on-site to raise awareness about the new rules and encouraged everyone to comply.
