Blocked and Overflowing: Regorogile Residents Plead for Relief

Regorogile (Thabazimbi) – Residents of Extension 6 in Regorogile say they’ve had enough after months of struggling with sewage overflow, stagnant water, and poor refuse management.

Thabo Gelebooi Ntebele, a long-time resident, says the sewer has been running past his home since Saturday, 17 May 2025. “We feel ignored,” he said.

Another resident, Mpule Makata, echoed these concerns, stating that water has been standing in the streets since the heavy rains in December 2024. “The truck came on Saturday, but they left the water behind,” she pleaded.

Adding to the sanitation concerns is the illegal dumping of waste in areas such as Ipelegeng and Matikiring, with residents reporting ongoing rubbish accumulation.

On 17 May 2025, Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) issued a public statement via Facebook, noting that their Water and Sanitation Services department is currently addressing drainage issues in the area. According to the notice, flooding is being exacerbated by residents blocking water flow into their properties. The municipality stated that their Water, Roads, and Stormwater teams are set to meet soon to assess and restore proper drainage.
