Cycling with the Big 5!

Thabazimbi – On Saturday, 24 May 2025, cyclists from across the region gathered for a once-in-a-lifetime ride through the heart of Big 5 territory at the Marakele CT Hydraulics MTB Challenge.

This extraordinary event offered participants the rare opportunity to ride through the breathtaking landscapes of Marakele National Park, a conservation jewel nestled just outside Thabazimbi. With every climb and descent, riders immersed themselves in panoramic views, fresh bushveld air, and the thrilling possibility of spotting Africa’s most iconic wildlife.

As part of the Big 5 medal series, each rider who crossed the finish line received a proudly earned LION medal—symbolic of both the strength required to complete the ride and the cause it supports. Proceeds from the race go directly towards conservation efforts, making every pedal stroke a contribution to preserving South Africa’s natural heritage.
