Stolen Car, Fatal Chase

Northam/ Rustenburg – A hijacking incident that started in the early hours of Saturday, 14 June 2025 in Northam came to a deadly halt near Marikana when police and a private tracking company cornered the suspects — resulting in a fatal shootout and the recovery of the stolen vehicle.

According to SAPS spokesperson colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the incident occurred around 03:00 in Northam, Limpopo. The victim’s vehicle was hijacked and swiftly reported, triggering a coordinated response between patrolling police officers and a private tracking company.

With the vehicle’s tracker activated, the suspects were pursued across provincial lines into Marikana, Rustenburg. There, the situation escalated when a shootout broke out between the suspects and the tracking company personnel. One suspect, a 29-year-old man, was fatally wounded during the exchange.

The remaining suspects fled the scene and are still at large. A manhunt has since been launched, with SAPS intensifying efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. A firearm and the hijacked vehicle were successfully recovered at the scene.

A case of carjacking is being investigated by Northam Detectives, while Marikana police have opened a case of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
